The 2021 Redesign
New bodywork with integrated winglets, a revised chassis and better electronics. It was the largest change to the model in a decade.
Cheap Second Hand
Values on the earlier bikes have fallen far enough that a ZX-10R is among the most affordable ways onto a circuit on something genuinely fast.
Aluminium Instead
A cover machined from solid, sealing on an O-ring in a turned groove. There is nothing inside it to age and nothing to inspect for the life of the engine.
Machined Rather Than Cast
Turned from billet with the sealing face cut in one operation, which is why it seals on a ring alone rather than needing compound.
Torque Into Aluminium
The fasteners thread into the head and Kawasaki specifies a figure for good reason. Guessing at it turns a twenty-minute job into a thread repair.
Sold Separately for a Reason
Some owners want the fault gone and nothing else; others want the whole system out. Kawasaki's arrangement lets both happen without compromise.
Refit for an Inspection
Where periodic testing covers the equipment, the standard housing goes back on in twenty minutes with nothing needing replacement.
The Complete Picture
Airbox, hose, reed assembly and cylinder head port. The cover closes the last of those and the airbox end needs its own answer.
Six World Titles
Between 2015 and 2020 the ZX-10R won every World Superbike championship on offer, which is a record nothing in the class approaches. The road bike shares the architecture and a great many owners use them accordingly.
A Balance Free Rear Shock
Showa's design separates damping from the main body, adopted directly from Kawasaki's racing programme. It works and almost nobody else uses it on a road motorcycle.
