Two Reed Housings
One per cylinder bank, fed from the airbox and bolted directly to the heads. After more than a decade they are the oldest plastic on the engine.
Past Their Useful Life
Reeds crack from heat cycling rather than from mileage, so even a well-kept bike has housings that are due for attention. Removing them ends the question.
A Decade of Warm-Ups
Every cold start put both housings through the full temperature range of the cylinder head, and it is that cycling rather than distance covered which finishes a reed. Bikes with modest mileage are no better off here than hard-used ones.
Machined From Solid
One piece per bank with an O-ring in a turned groove. Nothing inside to age and nothing to check again for the life of the engine.
Both Banks
Closing one head and leaving the other achieves nothing measurable. The system is only deleted when both are capped.
A Narrow Sixty-Five Degrees
The V-angle keeps the engine compact and puts the rear bank somewhere genuinely awkward to reach. That is the only real difficulty in this job and it is worth knowing before the tank comes off.
Original Fasteners
Aprilia's own bolt positions and torque values. Nothing is drilled and no thread in either head is disturbed.
The Solenoid Circuit
Watched independently by the controller and addressed by the electrical eliminator.
Homologation
The system belongs to the approval and removing it ends road legality in Europe.
Reversible
Both standard housings refit on their own fasteners with no new seals required.
Support Has Thinned
Aprilia stopped supplying some early V4 components years ago, and serviceable reed housings are among the parts that have become awkward to source. Replacing perishable plastic with aluminium removes a future problem rather than only a present one.
