Why Not Buy Them Apart
Ordered separately they arrive weeks apart, the tank comes off twice and a two-hour job becomes two evenings for no benefit whatsoever.
Before the Exhaust Goes On
An aftermarket can usually goes on in the same week. Getting this out of the way beforehand stops the exhaust taking the blame for a crackle that was there before it arrived.
Torque, Twice
Once for the cylinder head cover into aluminium and once for the tank fasteners. Neither is high and both are easy to exceed.
The Older the Bike
Reeds age with heat cycles rather than mileage, so any Kawasaki past its first decade is a stronger candidate regardless of the distance covered.
Start With the Mechanical Half
Housing off, cover on and torqued, then the electrical connector. Doing it the other way round means testing twice for no reason.
What the Kit Saves
One disassembly instead of two, one delivery instead of two and one evening instead of two. On a job where access is the expensive part, that is the argument.
Current Production
The Versys 1100 is being delivered now, which means dealers are still learning the model and the aftermarket is thin. Anything fitted at this stage should be removable without argument, because the warranty conversation has not yet been had by anybody.
