The JP ES 007 is the electrical half of Ducati's secondary air deletion, and on the Multistrada 1200 it takes the place of the solenoid the engine controller spends its life watching.

The Testastretta 11 Degree
Introduced on this model in 2010 and the change that made Ducatis usable every day. Service intervals went from painful to ordinary overnight.
Impedance, Not a Bridge
This unit answers with the value the controller expects. A wire looped across the pins answers with a different wrong value and produces its own code.
Under the Tank
On most of the range the connector sits above the airbox, which means the tank comes off. The access takes longer than the exchange does.
Blocking the Hose Achieves Nothing
The reeds stay in place and the ports stay open behind them. A blocked line moves the problem rather than removing it.
Desmodromic Valves Do Not Change This
Ducati's mechanically closed valve gear is what allows the rev ceilings the company quotes, and it has no bearing at all on the secondary air system bolted to the outside of the head.
A Decision Worth Recording
Whoever works on this motorcycle in five years will assume the system is intact. A line in the service book is worth an hour of somebody's confusion.
Fuel Grade Is Irrelevant
Riders sometimes try different petrol before investigating the noise, which never helps. The reaction happens after combustion and no grade changes the residue.
The Case for Doing It Before Mapping
Secondary air injects fresh charge into the exhaust port after combustion, and every exhaust gas reading taken while that is happening is diluted by it. A fuelling map built on those numbers inherits the error and carries it everywhere. Removing the system first is not about power; it is about the numbers meaning what the person reading them thinks they mean.
Fitted at a Service, Not Between Ones
The tank has to come off for several routine jobs, and the eliminator takes twenty minutes once it is off. Doing this at the same time as a filter, a coolant change or a set of belts is straightforward; doing it on its own is an evening spent almost entirely on bodywork.
