The JP MJ 008 is the Memjet EVO power module for the SR400, a preset fuel module that corrects the mixture without anything being written to the motorcycle's own electronics.

Yamaha kept the SR in production for four decades with a kickstarter and no electric start, adding fuel injection while changing nothing else.
Why the Factory Map Is Cautious
A manufacturer maps one motorcycle for every market, every fuel quality and every altitude it will ever be sold into, then adds a margin for emissions testing. That margin is not a mistake. It is simply not tuned for one bike, one climate and one exhaust system.
Buying With an Exhaust Already Fitted
This is the most common situation and the clearest case. A motorcycle running an aftermarket silencer on the standard map is working with a mixture the factory never intended it to have.
A Component, Not a Project
Some tuning parts start a conversation that lasts a season. This one is fitted on a Sunday afternoon and then never thought about again, which for most owners is exactly the point.
Nothing Upstream Notices
The engine controller issues its instruction and the module modifies it afterwards. From the controller's point of view the motorcycle behaves exactly as it always has, which is why nothing is logged.
Nothing at the Pump
Fuel consumption stays where it was within any margin anybody can measure on a road. Claims in either direction should be treated with suspicion.
Why Not Simply Adjust the Fuel Screw
Because there is no fuel screw. Injection removed every mechanical adjustment a carburettor offered, and everything that used to be a screwdriver job is now a decision made in software.
A Single Curve, Not a Compromise
Because the module is developed for one engine, the correction can be shaped for that engine's behaviour rather than averaged across a range of machines with different requirements.
