A Track Bike Carrying a Test Requirement
A canister of activated carbon holds petrol vapour so it can be burnt rather than released. On a motorcycle that will spend its life on a circuit it is dead weight with plumbing attached.
Where It Sits
Behind the engine among the shock, the linkage and whatever exhaust the owner has fitted. It is the least useful thing in the most contested space on the bike.
A Kilogram and a Half
Vessel, bracket, valve and lines together, all of it carried high and central. On a motorcycle where everything else has been chosen for mass, it is conspicuous.
A Solenoid the Controller Watches
It is checked at every start. An empty connector reads as a failure rather than as a deliberate change.
Breathing Without Leaking
The tank has to admit air and must not release fuel when the bike is tipped. Those two requirements are why the vent fitting exists at all.
ShiftCam
BMW's variable valve timing arrived on the 2019 bike and widened the powerband without costing anything at the top. It is the reason the current RR is easier to ride fast than its predecessors.
Room for a Race System
Aftermarket exhausts mount in the same area behind the engine. Clearing the canister is frequently what makes the fit straightforward rather than a fight.
Fill to the Click
Pushing fuel past the nozzle cut-off soaks the carbon bed permanently, and the hard starting that follows is almost never traced back to the pump.
Undone Without Trace
A later owner inspecting the bike would find original fasteners and original wiring, with no evidence of the conversion.
Check Your Market
BMW fits this only where regulations demand it, so the legal position depends entirely on where the motorcycle is registered.
Not Just the Canister
The bracket and the valve go too. Leaving either behind means an empty mount and a live circuit for no benefit.
