Vapour, Captured
A sealed tank warmed by the sun and by the engine builds pressure, and regulations require that pressure to be held rather than released. Carbon absorbs it until the engine can burn it.
The Sports Tourer of the Pair
BMW gave the ST a taller screen, a more upright position and hard luggage mounts. It is the version bought by people covering distance rather than chasing corners.
Belt Drive Again
Clean, quiet and needing almost no attention. On a touring motorcycle it is a considerably better idea than the market ever gave BMW credit for.
Behind the Engine
The canister, its bracket and three lines occupy the area also wanted by the shock and by any aftermarket exhaust hanger. Something has to give and it is usually the exhaust fitting badly.
A Saturated Filter
Overfilling at the pump forces liquid fuel into the carbon bed. The symptoms are hard starting and a rough idle, which almost nobody traces back to the fuel nozzle.
How the Tank Breathes Afterwards
Fuel drawn out has to be replaced by air coming in. A proper vent fitting handles that; a cut hose behind the swingarm does it badly.
A Solenoid the Controller Watches
It is checked at every start. An empty connector reads as a failure rather than as a deliberate change.
Market Dependent
BMW did not fit the system everywhere, which is why a used ST bought abroad may already lack most of what this kit removes. Looking before ordering saves a return.
Keep the Parts
Everything removed goes back on its own fasteners. A box on a shelf is all the conversion needs to be undone.
Road Legality
Where the system belongs to the type approval, taking it off ends road legality until it is refitted.
