Sprint Filter lists the 7-micron T12 for exactly one of the three motorcycles that share this housing, and it is not the one with the most aggressive styling. The 703RR and the 703R ETC are offered the standard weave, the P14 and the racing weave; only the 703T ETC gets the desert medium. The element has the same shape for all three, so the choice says nothing about fit. It says something about use: of the three, the tourer is the one most likely to be ridden a long way from paved roads, loaded, for days at a time.

The finest catch, at the lowest flow
This is the tightest filter Sprint Filter makes, and it is sold on exactly that basis. At 7 µm it stops particles far below what the P08's 80-micron weave is rated for, which is what keeps fine mineral dust away from an engine on a long dry stage. The price is flow — 560 litres per square metre per second, the lowest figure in the range — and on tarmac that price buys nothing. It is a tool for particular weeks, not a year-round element.
Planning it into a trip
The sensible way to own a T12 on a tourer is alongside the P08, not instead of it. Fit it before a trip that will cross dusty country, ride the trip, and put the standard element back for the roads at home; both come out of the same unmodified airbox. It will not make the 703T ETC stronger — no filter does that in a standard airbox — and on a fast motorway day it gives up flow the engine would otherwise use. At about seven tenths of the standard element's price, it is a modest cost for the one situation it is made for.
Care and cleaning
Work compressed air through SM300T12 from the clean side outwards, over the whole mat. After a genuinely dusty trip, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water comes off clear. Dry it slowly in moving air at room temperature — no heat gun, radiator or flame, which harm the fibres — and refit it dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
