The interesting line in this fitment list is the oldest one. The panel that goes into a Ninja Z300 also goes into the Ninja 250R of 2008, so the airbox around it — its volume, its inlet, the outline of the panel — was settled before the Z300 existed and never moved. Nothing an owner can buy will change that geometry, and nothing should: the fuelling was mapped around it. In an intake whose dimensions are all fixed, the material inside is the one term still open to a decision, and the Sprint Filter PM95S is a current answer to it.
Key Features
- Single-layer woven polyester, used completely dry, with no oil at any point in its life
- Filtration at 80 microns with an airflow rate of 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Threads starting at ø 22 microns in diameter, laid into a weave with a known, repeatable aperture
- Close to twice the filtering surface of a typical performance element in the same footprint
- Exchanges directly for the paper panel — the airbox is not altered and the map is not touched
- Designed to serve the life of the motorcycle, backed by two years of warranty
What is fixed, and what is not
An intake is a designed system and most of it is finished at the factory: duct length, box volume, the resistance the calibration was written around. That is exactly why the element can be exchanged without a remap — the engine is still breathing through the same box, with the same volume behind the same inlet, and only the material in the aperture has changed. It is also why claims of extra power from a panel filter should be read sceptically: this one does not make a standard Z300 noticeably stronger. What it changes is whether the single adjustable term in a fixed system sits at its best value or below it.
An old airbox, a current material
Woven polyester differs from pressed paper in the ways that matter to a small motorcycle kept for years. It is not consumed: a load of dust is a condition to reverse, not a countdown to a purchase. It is unaffected by getting wet, which paper is not. And it carries roughly double the working surface, so a given quantity of dirt occupies a smaller share of it and the restriction climbs more gently between cleans. Sprint Filter puts the dry P08 at 93.13 per cent retention of 100-micron particles against 76.42 per cent for four-layer oiled cotton.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side is the standard service for the PM95S, moving the nozzle so every fold is reached rather than one spot scoured. When something has stuck, wash the panel in lukewarm water with a trace of mild detergent and rinse it until the run-off is clean. Let it dry naturally in moving air; heat guns, radiators and flames all ruin polyester and there is no way back from that. Refit dry, with no oil and no treatment of any kind. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the airbox of the Kawasaki Ninja Z300 built from 2015 to 2017. Three machines share it: the Ninja 250R of 2008 to 2012, the Ninja 300 of 2013 to 2017 and this one. All three are listed in the Fitment tab.
