What It Is
Dimensionally this is 49 mm, 63.5 mm, 82.6 mm, which is how it is told apart from the rest of the range. Free length and inner diameter decide whether a spring fits; the rate decides whether it suits. Free length and inner diameter decide fit; the rate decides behaviour. Öhlins winds, heat-sets and measures each spring individually.
Why the Original
Öhlins supports its suspension with individual service parts, which is why a fifteen-year-old damper can still be rebuilt to specification. The part number is the contract: it defines material, dimension and finish together. If the unit is already apart, compare the published dimensions with the part in your hand. Öhlins numbers do not follow a logic you can guess — always read them from the documentation.
Getting the Number Right
05018-12 is the Öhlins number for this position — the same one printed in the service documentation. The published dimensions are dimension a 49 mm, dimension b 63.5 mm, dimension c 82.6 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Öhlins publishes sag targets, and those are the reference for choosing a rate. Coating is applied after setting so it does not affect the rate.
Fitting and Setup Service
If you would rather not open the damper yourself, we can do it — we are an authorised Öhlins service centre and rebuild these units as a matter of routine.
