DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 61093-41 is a shock absorber spring rated at 115 N/mm, 150 mm long with a 57 mm inner diameter. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every click a compromise.

Key Features

  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Öhlins part number 61093-41
  • Free length 150 mm
  • 71 mm of usable stroke
  • Measured spring rate 115 N/mm
  • Inner diameter 57 mm
  • Powder-coated yellow

How Öhlins Makes Them

Öhlins machines its own critical components instead of buying them in, and the tolerances are where the money goes. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. Seals are specified for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost.

Dimensions

Free length 150 mm, inner diameter 57 mm, rate 115 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

Choosing 115 N/mm

A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. This end of the range suits heavier riders, two-up use, or a machine ridden hard enough that fork dive becomes the limit. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.

Rate and the Linkage

A rear spring is the cheapest part of the suspension and the one that decides the most. Adding a pillion or luggage changes the rear load enough that the standard rate stops working properly. Preload adjusts sag within a rate; it does not change the rate, and no amount of it will rescue a spring that is wrong.

Applications

Selection is by measurement. If the diameter and free length match your fork, the remaining question is the rate. This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do. A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table.

Fitting

Preload spacers usually need shortening or lengthening so the installed length stays correct. The job needs no special tools beyond a fork spring compressor and a measuring rod for the oil level. Fork oil should be replaced at the same time — it is already out of the leg.

Road Approval

Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins components deliver what they promise once they are fitted and set up properly. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do exactly that in house — installation, service and setup. Simply ask if you would like us to take care of it.
