A leaking damper is not a cosmetic problem: it is a damper that has stopped controlling the wheel.

Key Features

Original Öhlins service part

Outer Diameter 24 mm

Inner Diameter 14 mm

Thickness 5 mm

Öhlins part number 04717-01

Function

At 14 mm, 24 mm, 5 mm it fits one position only; the next size up carries a different number. Seals harden with heat and age even when the machine has not been ridden much. The dust seal does the hard work: it keeps the grit that would score the shaft away from the oil seal. A seal that has taken a set no longer springs back and starts to weep.

Original Öhlins Part

This is an original Öhlins part, not an aftermarket equivalent — the tolerances are the ones the unit was assembled to. Öhlins supports units that are decades old, which is why the spare parts list runs to thousands of numbers. We can check the number against the Öhlins exploded view before you order — just ask. Order by part number. The dimensions below are the ones Öhlins publishes for it.

Getting the Number Right

04717-01 is the Öhlins number for this position — the same one printed in the service documentation. inner diameter 14 mm, outer diameter 24 mm, thickness 5 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. Öhlins specifies seal compounds for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost. Seals are the part of a damper that decides whether it holds its gas charge and its oil, and they are the usual reason a unit ends up on the bench.

Fitting and Setup Service

If you would rather not open the damper yourself, we can do it — we are an authorised Öhlins service centre and rebuild these units as a matter of routine.

Specifications

Brand: Öhlins

Part Number: 04717-01

Category: Seals

Inner Diameter: 14 mm

Outer Diameter: 24 mm

Thickness: 5 mm

Country of Origin: Sweden

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/04717-01_24840ab0-7ef6-491b-8f7d-07d670fc8e7f.png?v=1788872736
