How to measure your helmet size correctly: To find the right helmet size, measure your head circumference with a flexible tape measure.
It is important that the tape measure runs around the widest part of the head – only then will you get a correct result.
Place the tape measure at the front, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and run it along the sides above the ears.
At the back, the tape must run over the largest part of the back of the head (not too low on the neck). The tape may run slightly at an angle – what matters is that it sits all the way around the largest points of the head.
Make sure the tape measure sits snugly but does not dig in. Measure 2–3 times for the most accurate result. You can then compare the measured value in centimetres (cm) with our size chart.
Tips for an accurate result
- Keep hair flat (e.g. do not measure over a voluminous hairstyle)
- Keep the tape horizontal, i.e. along the largest circumference
- Do not measure too loosely
- For values between two sizes:
→ usually choose the larger size (depending on helmet model / fit)
Important note on fit
The right helmet should fit firmly without causing uncomfortable pressure points.
A new helmet may feel a little tighter at first, as the inner lining adapts slightly over time.

Titanium is LS2's name for a warm mid-grey with a trace of metal in it, sprayed matt. It is the colour riders choose when they want the helmet to belong to the motorcycle rather than announce itself — it sits correctly on silver, on black, on raw aluminium and on almost every grey-scale paint scheme built in the last decade, which is a longer list than any bright colour can claim.
Where this helmet sits, and what the Advant X costs extra
The Advant name covers three helmets at three prices, and the differences are not cosmetic. This one is the entry: KPA shell, 299 euros, and the full mechanism — chin bar through 180°, dual P/J, sun visor, Pinlock supplied.
The table makes an uncomfortable comparison possible, so we may as well make it: for thirty euros more you could have a composite full-face weighing 250 grams less. The chin bar is what you pay for, and the weight is what it costs — better decided deliberately than discovered later.
| Model | Type | Shell | Weight | RRP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FF811 Vector II | Full-face | HPFC | 1500 g | from 259 € |
| FF906 Advant | Flip-up (P/J) | KPA | 1750 g | from 299 € |
| FF817 Challenger II | Full-face | HPFC | 1500 g | from 329 € |
| FF901 Advant X | Flip-up (P/J) | HPFC | 1600 g | from 399 € |
| FF901 Advant X Carbon | Flip-up (P/J) | Carbon 6K | 1550 g | from 469 € |
The chin bar that goes all the way round
Most modular helmets flip. This one rotates. The bar travels a full half-circle from closed to stowed against the rear of the shell, and the consequence is the whole reason the Advant exists: with it behind your head rather than propped above your eyebrows, the open helmet has no slab of plastic standing in the wind. Anyone who has ridden through town with a conventional flip-up open knows the noise. Here there is none, so the open position becomes something you use.
About the matt titanium finish
Matt titanium is the most practical finish of the three, for a reason that has nothing to do with taste. Road film — the fine grey mix of brake dust, diesel and rain that settles on everything at the front of a motorcycle — is almost exactly this colour. On gloss black it looks like neglect after two wet commutes. On matt titanium it is invisible until you actually wash the helmet. Matt also scatters light instead of reflecting it, so swirl marks and fine scratches never form the bright highlight that makes them visible — which counts on a chin bar you grab at every fuel stop. The trade-off is honest: baked-on insects need soaking rather than wiping, and a matt surface scrubbed hard stays dulled.
KPA, and two shells for seven sizes
The shell is KPA — Kinetic Polymer Alloy, LS2's mix of polycarbonate and technical thermoplastics. Marketing names for plastics deserve scepticism, so plainly: this is an injection-moulded polymer shell, not a laid-up composite. Polymer resists penetration well because it flexes rather than cracks, and is consistent unit to unit in a way hand-laid fibre never quite is. It is also heavier — the trade this helmet makes openly. Seven sizes from XS to 3XL sit on two shells, split XS–L and XL–3XL, so an XS carries a shell built for an L. Proportions stay sane, but this is not the four-shell approach of a race helmet.
P and J: two approvals in one helmet
P/J is the paperwork most buyers skip and shouldn't. Under ECE 22.06 a modular helmet can be homologated as a full-face (P), as a jet (J), or as both. This one is both: tested closed, then again open, and passed in each. Since the whole design is built around a chin bar that gets out of the airstream, the J approval is not an optional extra here — it is what makes the concept legal to use.
1750 grams on a flip-up
The scales say 1750 g (±50) on a mid-size shell with nothing fitted. That is a lot, it is the highest figure in our LS2 line-up, and pretending otherwise would only annoy you when the box arrives. The reason is structural: a bar rotating through 180 degrees must lock hard enough to pass a chin impact and pivot smoothly for years, and that hardware has mass. Commuters never notice it. Riders who tour will.
What the ECE 22.06 plaque actually means
ECE 22.06 is not a relabelled 22.05. The old standard hit five marked points and recorded straight-line deceleration; the current one hits up to eighteen, at multiple speeds, and adds an oblique impact against a slanted, sandpaper-faced anvil designed to measure rotation rather than compression. Rotation is the mechanism European regulation ignored for decades: a glancing blow that twists the head does more damage than the same energy delivered straight on. Since January 2024 no helmet without 22.06 may be sold new in the EU.
Two screens, the Pinlock in the box, and where the air goes
The outer screen is quick-release: two catches, no tools, about a minute to swap, hardcoated and UV-stabilised. Inside, a tinted drop-down sun visor runs on a side slider — usable one-handed in winter gloves, the only test that matters. And the anti-fog lens comes with the helmet: Pinlock® 120 MaxVision™ XLT (DKS471), in the box. MaxVision spans the full aperture instead of leaving a fogged frame; XLT keeps night vision close to a bare visor. Several helmets above this price still charge for it.
The ventilation is a channel system rather than a pair of holes. The chin vent aims air at the inside face of the visor, which is what actually clears mist; the top vent feeds ducts moulded into the multi-density EPS, and the rear exhaust sits in the shell's wake. Multi-density EPS deserves a line: the impact liner is several foam densities placed where each does most good.
Getting the helmet off a fallen rider
The emergency release is the feature you hope stays unused. Paramedics have to get a helmet off a rider who may have a neck injury, and the safest way is to remove the cheek pads first so the shell lifts straight rather than being twisted over the jaw. Pull tabs at the base of the shell do exactly that — check where they sit, and do not bury them when you refit the interior. Retention is a micrometric ratchet on a metal buckle with a reinforced strap.
On noise, and what this helmet does not do
The honest list, because it saves returns. Weight. At 1750 g this is the heaviest helmet in our LS2 range. No independent crash rating. SHARP has never tested an FF906 — their „Advant X“ result belongs to a different, composite-shelled helmet, and transferring those four stars here would be dishonest even though it would sell more helmets. Two shells, not three — fine for most heads, coarser at the extremes of the size range.
Wind noise deserves the same treatment: no measured figure exists, so there is no number here. It comes from the neck seal, the gap under the chin bar and the vents, and the 180° rotation helps because no upright bar catches air when open. But a naked bike at 130 km/h beats any helmet ever made.
When something wears out
Buy the helmet, then keep it. Everything that fails in normal use is serviceable: the complete interior in all seven sizes, visors in clear, light tint, dark tint and three iridium finishes, the chin curtain, the chin-bar ratchet and both plates, the air vents, the entire chin bar, and the Pinlock lens — together in the FF906 Advant Kit.
🔵 The one genuine trap is the sun visor, revised in September 2023. Earlier helmets use 800906SVI11; later ones 806701SVI11 tinted or 806701SVI01 clear, shared with the MX701, MX707, FF901, FF910 and OF603. They do not swap — find the build date on the chin-strap label first.
