DescriptionThe whole story▼
Born on the world championship stage and finished by hand in Italy, the Extreme Components GP EVO Carbon Brake Lever Guard in the "Italien" limited edition puts rider safety at the centre of every design decision. The ergonomic inner profile is deliberately free of sharp edges, allowing the hand to release cleanly in a crash — a detail refined over more than ten years of development in top-level competition. Made exclusively to order and hand-painted with the Italian national flag, no two guards are identical.
Key Features
- Optimised crash safety: the smooth, edge-free inner surface allows the hand to separate from the lever guard instantly in a fall, reducing the risk of entrapment
- Monolithic twill-weave carbon construction — no aluminium end cap, no separate metal parts, weighing just 35 g
- Wind-tunnel-developed front spoiler improves airflow around the throttle grip area, cutting turbulence at full-throttle top-speed runs
- Revised angle geometry accommodates both short and long brake levers, while the proven V-shape profile enables rapid handlebar release in extreme situations
- Five aluminium adapters included for handlebar inner diameters from Ø14 mm to Ø19 mm, plus a black Teflon spacer for fine-tuning guard-to-grip distance
- Limited-edition, hand-painted "Italien" finish — produced strictly on request, guaranteeing a one-of-a-kind appearance
Engineering Detail
The GP EVO represents the current pinnacle of Extreme Components' lever guard programme. The entire guard is moulded from a single piece of twill-weave carbon fibre — a construction that eliminates the weight penalty of a traditional aluminium tip while delivering exceptional rigidity under lateral impact. At 35 g it is, by the manufacturer's own measurement, the lightest brake lever guard currently available on the market.
Safety-First Inner Profile
The inner face of the guard carries no protruding edges or lips. In a crash scenario, gloves and fingers slide free without snagging — a functional safety benefit that complements the structural strength of the outer face, which features a partially flat surface engineered to maximise impact resistance against kerb stones and track barriers.
Aerodynamic Front Spoiler
The redesigned spoiler section was shaped in a wind tunnel to channel air smoothly around the brake lever and throttle grip assembly. On extended straights at racing speeds the reduction in local turbulence provides a measurable aerodynamic benefit for both the rider's hand and the bike's overall drag profile.
Handmade in Italy
Each "Italien" edition guard is produced and painted individually in Italy. The Italian tricolour is applied by hand after curing, meaning every unit carries subtle variations that confirm its artisan origin. Production is strictly made-to-order — lead times apply.
