DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Yamaha Niken leans into corners like a motorcycle but stands on two front wheels, each with its own tyre, fork legs and brake. That layout gives the front end a great deal of grip, and it also means the front brake is shared between two separate wheels that ought to behave identically. Accossato lists its DK077 for the Niken from 2018 to 2021. The disc floats on a black carrier, belongs to the Elite line and measures 298 mm across, 5 mm in thickness and 132 mm at the bore.

Key Features

  • Elite floating front disc for the Yamaha Niken, 2018 to 2021
  • Listed for the ABS model, MXT 850
  • 298 mm × 5 mm, 132 mm bore
  • Original thickness, according to Accossato
  • Black carrier; rivets marked with the Accossato logo
  • Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
  • One disc per purchase; the Niken has one on each front wheel
  • No German ABE on file; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The DK077's friction ring floats on a black carrier, joined to it by rivets that allow a trace of movement, so the ring can expand under heat and centre itself between the pads. Each rivet bears Accossato's logo, a feature of the company's Elite line, and the disc retains the original 5 mm thickness. Accossato says it developed its understanding of brake discs in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 competition. Printed on the ring is the minimum working thickness, which matters because an over-worn disc may break under extreme stress.

Two Wheels That Should Match

On a conventional motorcycle both front discs turn with one wheel, and small differences between them are absorbed by a single tyre. On the Niken each front wheel has its own disc and caliper, and the two wheels work side by side, so the brakes on both should be in the same condition. Replace the discs together and use the same type on each side rather than one new disc beside a worn one. Renew the pads on both wheels at the same time, and bed everything in evenly with a series of moderate stops. While the calipers are off, check that the pistons move freely, because a sticking caliper warms its disc, wears it faster and makes that side drag. Once a year, compare the thickness of the two discs; if one is wearing noticeably faster than the other, the cause is usually a caliper, not the disc.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK077 for the Niken, model MXT 850 with ABS, from 2018 to 2021. With one disc on each front wheel, the Niken needs two DK077s for a complete change, and the price shown is for one. Accossato also lists the DKS073 for the Niken, a disc of the same size outside the Elite line. The EDF016 brake lever and the ESY688 clutch lever complete Accossato's entries for this bike.

Road Approval

No German ABE and no type approval are documented for the DK077 on the Niken; it is supplied for closed-circuit use.

Scope of Delivery
