DescriptionThe whole story

A touring bike rides in whatever weather the trip brings, and the Hyperstrada 939 is often out on days when the sky turns grey. Rain changes two things at the front brake: the grip beneath the tyre falls, and the gloves get thicker, often with hard knuckle protection that can bump into a lever set close for summer. The Accossato EDB012 is a front brake lever machined from aluminium for the 2016 to 2018 Hyperstrada 939, and its distance to the grip can be adjusted to the gloves of the day.

Key Features

  • Replaces the front brake lever of the Hyperstrada 939, 2016 to 2018
  • Mounts on the original master cylinder
  • Reach adjustable, adjuster near the pivot
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
  • Machined aluminium, anodised against corrosion
  • Seven blade colours, hub in black
  • Rigid one-piece blade
  • No German ABE documented; sold for circuit use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato produces the EDB012 by milling it out of solid aluminium and anodising the result. That treatment matters on a bike that is ridden in the wet, because the oxide layer it creates seals the aluminium against water and stops the lever from turning dull and chalky, as untreated alloy can. Around the pivot the finish is always black, and it is there that the reach is set; the blade is coloured to your order. It is a rigid lever, one piece from end to end, without a folding joint whose tolerances could change once dirt and water get in.

Rain, Gloves and Knuckle Armour

Waterproof gloves are bulky, and many have hard protectors over the knuckles. With a lever set close for thin gloves, those protectors can meet the blade before you mean to brake, or leave too little room to pull it fully. On the Hyperstrada 939 the fix takes a moment: move the blade outward with the adjuster until the gloved fingers rest on it with the knuckles clear.

On wet roads the braking itself should be gentler and more gradual, and a lever at the right distance makes it easier to build pressure in small steps instead of one squeeze. Riders who like to use the whole hand in the wet may prefer the long blade, made in blue, gold, green and orange.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the Hyperstrada 939, Accossato gives 2016 to 2018, listing the 2018 model year separately. The ESD082 clutch lever is its partner on the left side for the same years. Owners of the earlier Hyperstrada 821 will find a separate product page for their bike.

Road Approval

No documented ABE exists for German roads, so this lever is listed as a track part.
