DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Yamaha R1 of 2015 and 2016 belongs to the first two years of a new generation, and its owners tend to be riders who want to go fast on circuits. Getting there has a great deal to do with body position, and body position begins at the feet. Accossato's FT071 is an adjustable aluminium rearset for the R1 of 2015 and 2016, one of two kits the Italian company lists for these model years. It moves the pegs rearward, has knurled pegs and lever tips, and supports the standard or reversed shift pattern.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato, a company with an enduro world title from 1985 in its history, designs rearsets such as the FT071 with a simple, functional shape. The kit is made of aluminium, with knurling on the footpegs and on the tips of the gear lever and brake pedal, and heel guards in aluminium. Accossato calls it adjustable but does not describe the adjustment in its product text, so we cannot give details about it. It comes in all black or black with blue details.
Hanging Off Starts at the Feet
Hanging off looks like a movement of the upper body, but it starts with the feet. Before the braking point, the inside foot moves so that the ball of the foot rests on the peg, the heel lifts and turns outwards, and the knee is free to open towards the apex. The outside foot presses its ball into the peg while the outside knee locks against the tank, holding the rider in place without help from the arms. Only then does the body slide across the seat. If the feet are wrong, the rest follows badly: the inside toe hangs down and touches the track, the outside leg cannot grip, and the rider ends up hanging on the handlebar. Pegs further back than stock make this sequence easier, because the legs are already folded and the balls of the feet find the pegs naturally. An R1 covers the distance between corners very quickly, so there is little time to sort out your feet; it pays to have them in the right place from the start.
Two Kits for the Same Years
Accossato lists two rearsets for the R1 of 2015 and 2016: this FT071 and the FT070, which covers the R1 from 2015 through to 2023. The supplier's description reads the same for both and does not explain the difference. If you are unsure which suits your R1, send us the model year and any changes already made to the bike before you order.
Fitment and Compatibility
The FT071 is listed for the Yamaha R1 of the 2015 and 2016 model years only. Workshop installation is recommended: the gear linkage and brake pedal need adjusting, free play at the rear brake must be checked and the brake light tested. Follow Yamaha's torque values, use thread locker where specified and try the position on a paddock stand before riding. A reversed shift pattern is common on the circuit but unusual on the road.
Road Approval
No ABE or parts certificate for German roads is documented for the FT071. The rearsets are therefore for track use.
