The word Racing in this listing has one job: it names the conditions the medium was drawn up for. It is not a permission, not a claim about horsepower, and not a recommendation for every Speed Triple S on the road. The Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 passes 15,000 litres per square metre per second where the standard P08 passes 5,050, and it does that by opening its weave from 80 microns to 85. Read the name as the specification it actually is, and the decision in front of you gets simpler.
Key Features
- Dry polyester, racing specification, 85 microns of maximum aperture and never treated with oil
- Flow rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec, roughly triple the 5,050 of the standard P08 medium
- 95.22 % of 100-micron particles held back, marginally ahead of the P08 at that size
- About double the media area of a typical performance element, in the standard housing
- Goes into the series airbox unmodified; no remap, no fabrication, nothing to declare
- Regenerated with compressed air instead of replaced, with a two-year guarantee behind it
What the name does not mean
A drop-in element inside an unmodified airbox cannot rewrite what an engine produces, and no honest listing should suggest otherwise. What it can do is lower the intake resistance a little and, more usefully, hold that resistance steady across a service interval instead of letting it climb. The label carries no legal weight either: the part is a straight fit in the standard housing, so there is nothing to notify and nothing to undo. What it does say is that this medium was specified for an environment in which flow outranks retention.
The rider this medium was drawn for
Most Speed Triple S owners are not that rider. The S ran from 2016 to 2020 as the base trim of the 1050, and most of those bikes cover commutes, back roads and the occasional long weekend, on engines serviced by mileage and expected to run untouched for years. On that duty cycle a coarser weave is a real concession for a reserve that is seldom called on, and the standard P08 at 80 microns, or the P14 at 14 microns and 1,800 l/m²/sec, is the better buy. The F1-85 earns its place when the engine underneath it is maintained by running hours and opened before wear can accumulate — a track machine, or a road bike run to a competition schedule.
Care and cleaning
Blow it out with compressed air applied to the clean face, so dirt travels back out of the weave rather than deeper into it. Water with a mild detergent handles what remains, and the element goes back only once it is completely dry in ambient air — never dried with heat or an open flame. The part number is PM193S F1-85, and the maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed here for the Triumph Speed Triple S, model years 2016 to 2020. The same element serves three machines in the 1050 range: the Speed Triple S (2016–2020), the Speed Triple R (2016–2017) and the Speed Triple RS (2018–2020). Confirm the model year on your papers, as the earlier 1050 Speed Triple uses a different filter.
