The ABS in this model's name describes the brakes. What separates it from the ZX6R Ninja listed beside it is 636 against 600 — thirty-six cubic centimetres, and displacement added that way shows up as mid-range pull rather than a higher peak. The middle is where a road rider lives, and it is the part people try to buy more of once the bike is theirs. The intake is the first place they look, so it is worth being exact about what this element is.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in one dry layer, oil-free by design — nothing travels downstream onto the air sensor
- 80 µm of filtration at 5,050 l/m²/sec, Sprint Filter's road and track specification
- Around double the working surface of other performance elements
- Thread from ø 22 microns upward: the gap the air takes is woven, not pressed out of pulp
- A straight swap for the paper panel in the standard airbox, no modification and no remapping
- Serviced with air rather than replaced with money; two years of warranty from purchase
What an element can hand back
A filter can only return the restriction it caused itself, and on a standard ZX6R Ninja ABS with the standard exhaust and map that share is a small one. No cloth gives back restriction that belongs to the silencer, the ports or the calibration. So, honestly: a drop-in element does not make a standard 636 noticeably stronger, and nobody should buy one expecting the mid-range to grow. It is worth buying for the other half of the job — an intake restriction that stays close to where it started across a service interval instead of tightening unseen, on a part that is cleaned rather than binned.
The media are a line, not a ladder
Sprint Filter offers this airbox in more than one cloth, and the temptation is to read the list as grades with a best one at the top. It is not. Every step to a finer weave buys retention and spends flow. The P08 here sits at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec. The racing P08 F1-85 opens to 85 microns and 15,000 l/m²/sec — three times the flow, five microns coarser, a bargain that makes sense where an engine is maintained by running hours. The water-repellent P037 goes the other way at 37 microns and 4,500, the P14 at 14 and 1,800 for dusty work, the T12 at 7 and 560 for ground this bike will not meet. A 636 ridden on the road is what the P08 setting is for.
Care and cleaning
Cleaning the PM92S is dry work: compressed air from the clean side, blown outwards, is the whole of a normal service. After a salted winter or a wet week, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear, then let it dry right through in open air. Never use heat or a flame — polyester survives neither — and refit it dry. Nothing is oiled at any point. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja ABS, 636 cc, 2013 to 2026. The element covers two machines in total; the other is the ZX6R Ninja of 2009 onwards, which shares this airbox. Both are named in the Fitment tab, and the element code PM92S is safer to order by than the name on the tank.
