Almost everything a Multistrada owner spends is measured out in kilometres. Tyres, chain and sprockets, brake pads, fluids, the intervals printed in the service book: distance is the unit, and a bike used the way this one is meant to be used gets through all of it faster than the rest of the range. The air filter is the item where that arithmetic stops. The Sprint Filter PM279S is bought once for the machine, cleaned when it needs it and does not reappear on the list — a different sort of proposition on a motorcycle that can cover a year's worth of road in one summer.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in one dry layer, never oiled when new and never oiled afterwards
- Filtration at 80 µm, flow rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec, the medium specified for road and track use
- Threads from ø 22 microns in diameter — a fibre measurement, not the size of the openings
- Around twice the filtering cloth of other performance elements within the standard frame
- Goes in where the paper panel came out: nothing altered in the airbox, nothing changed in the map
- Designed by Sprint Filter for the life of the motorcycle, with a two-year warranty from purchase
Distance is what a filter counts
An element loads in proportion to the volume of air that has passed through it, which is why a touring machine reaches any given level of restriction sooner than a bike of the same capacity ridden at weekends. The odometer is the right yardstick here, and a Multistrada V2 will earn its cleaning intervals honestly. What matters is that reaching one costs an air line rather than an order, so the restriction goes back down again instead of only climbing towards the next replacement.
Away from home
There is a practical side to that on a bike built for distance: nothing has to be carried, and no part number has to be found in an unfamiliar country. A dusty stretch is dealt with wherever there is compressed air, and the element that goes back in is the one that came out. To be clear about what is not on offer, a filter sitting in an unmodified airbox will not make a standard Multistrada V2 faster or stronger. It keeps the intake at a known resistance, and it keeps it there across years rather than across one service interval.
Care and cleaning
The routine job is compressed air, directed at the clean side and blown outward through the media so that dust exits the way it entered. After wet or gritty riding, lukewarm water and a mild soap will release what air leaves behind; rinse it through until the water runs off clean. Drying is done in air and only in air, because heat is what damages polyester: keep heat guns, radiators and open flames well away from it. Fit it dry. The cleaning sheet is filed in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati Multistrada V2 built in 2025 and 2026. This part number spans six machines on the 890 V2 engine, from the touring models through to the sports bikes; check your own model year against the list in the Fitment tab.
