DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 01106-03 is a shock absorber spring rated at 75-120 N/mm, 168 mm long with a 57 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Measured spring rate 75-120 N/mm (progressive)
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Progressively wound
  • 85 mm of usable stroke
  • Inner diameter 57 mm
  • Free length 168 mm
  • Öhlins part number 01106-03

How Öhlins Makes Them

Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. Rates are offered in defined steps, so a change can be made in one direction at a time. Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly.

Dimensions

Öhlins holds the free length at 168 mm and the inner diameter at 57 mm across this rate range, so moving up or down a rate changes nothing about the installation.

What the Rear Spring Decides

Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every setting a compromise. Because the linkage is progressive on most modern machines, a small change in rate moves the sag more than riders expect.

Applications

Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it. Nothing about the installation changes across a rate range: the mounting, the length and the bore stay the same. Ask us with the machine and rider weight and we will tell you which rate in this size to take.

Fitting

A spring that is the correct length still needs the preload spacer checked, since installed length is what sets sag. Any suspension workshop can fit these; the fork does not need to leave the bike for long. Torque the fork caps to the manufacturer's figure; the springs change nothing about the assembly torque.

Road Approval

Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
