DescriptionThe whole story▼
Piston ring 28/30/4.9, Öhlins part number 04798-01. Öhlins uses a piston band rather than metal-to-metal contact, which is what keeps the bore intact.
Key Features
- Öhlins part number 04798-01
- Original Öhlins service part
- Dimension B 30 mm
- Dimension A 28 mm
- Dimension C 4.9 mm
What It Is
At 28 mm, 30 mm, 4.9 mm it fits one position only; the next size up carries a different number. The seat face has to be flat enough for the first shim to seal against it. Jets meter fixed bleed flow and are sized in tenths of a millimetre. A worn band lets oil past the outside of the piston, which feels like damping that has gone soft.
Genuine Service Part
This is an original Öhlins part, not an aftermarket equivalent — the tolerances are the ones the unit was assembled to. Öhlins numbers every position so a workshop can order precisely what it needs, not a whole assembly. The exploded drawing for your unit names the number; if you do not have it, we do. Send us the model and serial number of your unit and we will confirm the position before you order.
How to Be Sure It Fits
The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 04798-01 in this case. The published dimensions are dimension a 28 mm, dimension b 30 mm, dimension c 4.9 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Jets meter fixed bleed flow and are sized in tenths of a millimetre. A check valve holds pressure in one direction and opens in the other; a worn one lets damping bleed away.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
