Air-Cooled, Deliberately
The 1079 cc twin is the last of Ducati's air-cooled engines, taken from the Monster 1100 and detuned to 86 horsepower. It exists because the Scrambler is about character rather than numbers.
Bigger Than the Rest
The 1100 sits above the 800 range with a proper steel trellis, Brembo M4.32 calipers and a genuinely substantial feel. It is the Scrambler for people who found the smaller ones too slight.
Cornering ABS on a Retro
Ducati fitted a Bosch inertial platform and lean-sensitive braking to a motorcycle styled around 1970s desert sleds. The contrast is deliberate and it works.
Housing Without Switch
This replaces the throttle assembly and leaves the switch block alone. It suits an owner whose electrics are fine and who wants machined metal where moulded plastic was.
Where the Tube Runs
A bore cut on a machine keeps the grip turning cleanly. On a bike ridden casually rather than hard, that smoothness is most of what the rider actually notices.
Black Anodised
Converted into the surface. On a motorcycle with this much exposed metal and this little bodywork, the finish on a bar component is unusually visible.
Ergal 7075
An aerospace grade at roughly twice the strength of the alloys used in most machined accessories. It does not deform in the low-speed drop that eventually happens to every Scrambler.
The End of Air Cooling
Emissions regulation has ended this engine and nothing will replace it. That has already made the 1100 more interesting to own than it was when it was new.
Brembo Where It Counts
Ducati fitted M4.32 monobloc calipers to a motorcycle styled as a 1970s desert sled, which is a considerably more serious brake than the aesthetic implies. The Scrambler 1100 is dressed casually and specified properly, and that gap is most of its appeal.
