DescriptionThe whole story▼
The end of a touring day on an FJR1300AE often means an old town: a hotel somewhere behind the market square, reached through narrow streets paved with cobbles that are polished smooth and sometimes wet. Riding a big tourer through streets like that at walking pace is a job for the clutch, and after hundreds of kilometres the left hand is not at its freshest. The Accossato ESY688 is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the FJR1300AE of 2017 to 2021 with an adjustable reach, so the slow part of the day asks less of a tired hand.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Yamaha FJR1300AE, 2017 to 2021
- Replaces the original lever at the standard clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance between blade and grip
- Three lengths: short, standard (about 138 mm) and long
- Black and red only in standard length, silver also short
- CNC-machined from aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Rigid, no hinge
- No German ABE documented, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes the ESY688 from solid aluminium, machining it to shape before anodising it. On every version the hub is black; it holds the pivot and the reach adjustment and sits unobtrusively beside the switch housing. The blade carries your chosen colour, and because that colour is locked into an oxide layer grown on the aluminium, there is no paint to chip when the bike is squeezed into a crowded hotel garage. The blade is fixed, one rigid part from the pivot to the tip.
Cobbles and Old Town Streets
Cobblestones offer less grip than asphalt, especially when they are worn smooth or damp, and they are rarely flat. On a heavy tourer the answer is to ride them slowly and smoothly: a low gear, a steady trickle of drive from a slipping clutch, and no sudden inputs from either hand. The throttle stays almost still while the left hand does the fine work, feeding in a little more drive where the street climbs and a little less where it turns. That is precise work to ask of fingers at the end of a long day, and it is easier when the blade does not have to be chased. Bring the reach in until the lever rests just ahead of your fingertips in your touring gloves, and the FJR1300AE can be walked through the narrowest old town at a steady pace. The long blade lightens the pull for riders who prefer to use the whole hand.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list, the ESY688 covers the FJR1300AE from 2017 to 2021, with several versions between 2017 and 2019 and a special edition of 2020 and 2021. The lever takes the place of the stock part at the original clutch mounting. Accossato does not list a brake lever for the FJR1300AE, so the clutch lever is offered on its own here.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE, the ESY688 is sold for track use.
