Nothing in a catalogue is advice. A part number appears beside a motorcycle because the housing matches, and the housing here is shared: BMW built one airbox for the whole middleweight F range, so every element offered for the bikes above it is offered here too. That is how a racing medium reaches the page of the softest, most road-biased bike in the family. It fits. Whether an F 750 GS has any use for it is a separate question, and for most owners the answer is no.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester run without oil, the racing member of the P08 family
- An aperture of 85 µm passing a rated 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow Sprint Filter builds
- Retention measured at 95.22 per cent of 100-micron particles
- Roughly double the filtering cloth of other performance elements, in the untouched housing
- Seats where the paper panel sat: no cutting, no adapter, no change to the fuelling
- Regenerated with air rather than thrown away, and guaranteed for two years from purchase
What 15,000 litres is for
The flow figure describes the medium, not the motorcycle: how much air a square metre of this cloth can pass every second, and it exists because racing engines spend real time at the top of the rev range with the throttle against its stop, where intake resistance is highest and every millibar counts. A parallel twin geared for a comfortable road pace never goes there. It runs part throttle, at moderate revs, on the flat torque BMW tuned into it, where the resistance of any clean element — racing or standard — is a small term in a small sum. Buying flow that is never called on is not a fault in the part. It is a purchase without an argument behind it.
The version this bike is asking for
Sprint Filter sells the identical fitment as a standard P08: 80 µm, 5,050 l/m²/sec, the road-and-track medium. It asks a fraction of the money — the F1-85 runs to around two and a half times the price of its road counterpart — and brings every property that matters on a 750. Dry cloth with no oil to travel downstream, a large surface that loads slowly, a service life counted in cleanings instead of replacements. On this motorcycle that is the better-argued part, and saying so is more use than selling the dearer one. The case for the F1-85 opens only if the bike is used against type: circuit days, and a maintenance clock counted in engine hours.
Care and cleaning
Air first. Hold a line to the clean face of the PM188S F1-85 and drive the dirt back out the way it arrived, never inward. Once a year of weather has gone beyond what air will shift, lukewarm water and a mild detergent finish it; rinse until nothing further comes out and leave it in moving air. Heat is what ruins these panels: no heat gun, no oven, no flame, and nothing goes back into the box damp. Sprint Filter's own maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the BMW F 750 GS from 2017 to 2026, seated in the standard airbox. Nine machines take this racing element: eight BMWs from the middleweight F range plus the Kove 800 X Pro. The Fitment tab lists them.
