DescriptionThe whole story▼
Touring means riding roads you do not know. On a Z1000SX that often means a fast, unfamiliar bend, and sooner or later something waits in the middle of one: gravel, a tractor, a car on the wrong side. The right hand then has to add brake while the bike is still leaned over, gently enough to keep grip and firmly enough to matter. The Accossato EDF088 is a front brake lever for the Kawasaki Z1000SX from 2011 to 2019. CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised, it fits the original master cylinder, and its distance from the grip can be set for exactly that kind of delicate input.

Construction and Material Quality
Delicate braking exposes play. If a lever has even a little movement at a hinge or a worn pivot, each application feels slightly different, and a gentle squeeze in a bend is where the fingers notice it first. The EDF088 for the Z1000SX avoids the hinge altogether. It is a fixed lever, machined as one aluminium part from the pivot end to the tip, and anodised afterwards so the surface is hard and the colour lies within the metal instead of on it. The hub, home to the pivot and the reach adjuster, is black on every version; the blade wears whichever of the seven colours you select.
When Something Appears Mid-Bend
A tyre has only so much grip, and in a bend part of it is already being used for cornering. Braking while leaned therefore has to start softly and build gradually, and the more lean, the gentler the start. There are two ways to deal with a hazard in a curve. If there is room, bring the bike more upright first and then brake harder; if there is not, hold your line and add front brake smoothly, never with a snatch. Both require fingers that can dose small amounts of pressure, so set the EDF088 on the Z1000SX with the blade under the first joints of your fingers while the hand rests loosely on the throttle. Practise gentle braking in bends at low speed, on an empty road or at a training course, long before you ever need it.
Fitment and Compatibility
Every Z1000SX from 2011 to 2019 is covered: Accossato lists the EDF088 for that whole span, with an additional entry for the 2014 to 2016 bikes, until the Ninja 1000SX took over for 2020. It replaces the stock lever on the original front master cylinder. For the clutch, Accossato names two levers, the ESK828 across 2011 to 2019 and the ESK750 for 2017 to 2019; if your SX is one of the later bikes, compare your original clutch lever with the photos of both.
Road Approval
The EDF088 comes without a documented German ABE and is offered for the race track.
