DescriptionThe whole story▼
The first Yamaha MT-09 arrived in 2014 with a three-cylinder engine full of character and a riding position that reminded many people of a supermoto: upright, wide handlebar, the rider perched over the front. Ridden hard on a circuit, a bike like that rewards riders who steer with their whole body and especially with their feet. Accossato's FT088 is an adjustable aluminium rearset for the MT-09 from 2014 to 2016. It moves the pegs further back than stock, has knurled pegs and lever tips and allows a standard or reversed shift pattern.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato, whose plant is in Villastellone near Turin, makes the FT088 from aluminium. The design is plain: footpegs with knurled surfaces, knurled tips on the gear lever and brake pedal, and heel guards in aluminium. The set is adjustable, as Accossato states, but the product description does not spell out how, and we will not guess. You choose between an all-black finish and black with blue details, and the shift can follow the standard pattern or the reversed one used in racing.
Leaning on the Outside Peg
Among the techniques taught on track days, weighting the outside footpeg is one of the most useful and least spectacular. In the middle of a corner you press down with the ball of your outside foot, and the bike settles. The load goes low into the chassis instead of through the handlebar, the steering stays light, and the bike tends to hold its line with fewer corrections. On the MT-09, whose wide bar invites riders to muscle it around, this is a valuable habit: it lets the hands relax and keeps the front end calm. Pressure on the inside peg has its moments as well, for example to help the bike flick from one side to the other in a chicane. Both work better when the pegs are where your feet fall naturally with the knees against the tank, and for riders who have started to hang off, that is usually further back than the stock position. Knurled pegs stop the ball of the foot from sliding off while you push.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FT088 for the MT-09 of 2014, 2015 and 2016; the later MT-09 is not part of this listing. Standard or reversed shifting is possible, and the reversed layout is a racing habit that would be unusual on the road. Fitting in a workshop is recommended so that the shift linkage and the brake pedal are adjusted, free play is checked and the brake light is confirmed working. Tightening torques come from Yamaha's documentation for the MT-09, thread locker is applied as specified, and a trial sit on the stand completes the job.
Road Approval
Accossato's FT088 has neither a German ABE nor a Teilegutachten on record, so on the MT-09 it belongs on the circuit, which is the use we sell it for.
