DescriptionThe whole story▼
Born from OZ's SBK Racing division, the Piega R rear wheel represents the pinnacle of the Piega family line — a forged aluminium five-spoke design that goes a step further than the standard Piega in both weight reduction and outright performance. Engineered exclusively for track use and developed in partnership with Suzuki GSX-R 1000 (2017–2023) geometry, it delivers the kind of agility and high-speed responsiveness that separates a well-sorted track weapon from everything else.
Key Features
- Lighter than the standard Piega series, with reduced rotating mass for sharper turn-in and faster directional changes at speed.
- Five-spoke Piega R design conceived by the OZ SBK Racing department — form and function refined through real competition experience.
- Forged aluminium construction delivers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio without compromising structural integrity under hard braking.
- Available in two anodised finishes: techno black and techno gold — each applied with the precision finish OZ has been known for since its racing origins.
- Made in Italy, to the exacting manufacturing standards that have defined OZ's reputation across Superbike World Championship paddocks.
- Supplied complete with premium bearings, aluminium angled valve, and spacers (included where required); a sprocket carrier is also provided — note that the original rear sprocket is not compatible and must be replaced.
Heritage, Design and Finish
The Piega R carries a lineage that stretches back through decades of Italian motorsport engineering. Where many aftermarket wheels settle for cosmetic changes to a standard cast design, the Piega R was conceived on the race circuit and refined in the pits. Its five-spoke architecture is not decorative — spoke placement and section profiles are the result of load-path analysis carried out by OZ's racing engineers, ensuring each gram of material is doing meaningful structural work.
Both available anodised finishes — techno black and techno gold — are applied directly to the aluminium substrate rather than painted over it, which means the surface is integral to the alloy rather than a layer sitting on top. The result is a finish that resists track abuse, chain oil, and tyre mounting without the peeling or chipping that plagues lesser wheels. The spoke geometry reads as a premium statement whether the bike is being scrutineered in the pit lane or displayed in the paddock.
Track Performance
Rotating unsprung mass is one of the most consequential variables in how a motorcycle steers. A heavier rear wheel demands more force to change direction, dulls the initial response to throttle inputs, and adds inertia that every chassis component then has to overcome. The Piega R addresses this at the source: by stripping mass from the wheel itself, it allows the suspension, tyres and rider inputs to translate more directly into motion. The GSX-R 1000's inline-four character — rapid revving, aggressive mid-corner drives — benefits measurably from a rear end that is genuinely lighter and not just marketed as such.
Fitment and Compatibility
This rear wheel is designed and verified for the following fitment:
- Suzuki GSX-R 1000 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023)
The supplied sprocket carrier is required; the original factory rear sprocket is not compatible. Spacers are included and fitted only where needed. Installation should be carried out by a qualified technician and the wheel professionally balanced prior to track use.
