Manufacture and Tolerance
Two units carrying the same part number behave the same way out of the box, which is the whole point of testing each one. The wire is progressively wound where the application calls for it and straight where it does not. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain.

What This Rate Does

A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.
How a Rear Spring Works
A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering. On a linkage-equipped machine the wheel moves several millimetres for every millimetre the damper moves, and the spring rate has to account for that ratio. Öhlins sells rear springs separately precisely because rider weight varies more than machine weight does.

A spring is one of the few suspension parts that is genuinely interchangeable: same bore, same free length, and it goes in. Rather than a model list, use the measurements: a fork that accepts this diameter and length is a candidate, and the rate follows from rider weight.
Fitting
Torque the fork caps to the manufacturer's figure; the springs change nothing about the assembly torque. Fitting is a fork-oil job: the legs come apart, the springs go in, the oil level is set to specification. Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical.
Road Approval
Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.
