Manufacture and Tolerance
Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get. The unit is rebuildable: seals, shims and oil are catalogue items, not a reason to buy a new one. Every unit is dyno-tested against the curve held for its part number, not sampled from a batch.

Choosing 150 N/mm
A firm rate holds the chassis attitude when the front or rear is loaded hard. Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. Support under braking improves; small-bump comfort gives a little back. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.
What the Rear Spring Decides
On a linkage-equipped machine the wheel moves several millimetres for every millimetre the damper moves, and the spring rate has to account for that ratio. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every setting a compromise. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering.
Applications
Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it. The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload. Öhlins builds springs to dimensions rather than to model lists, so the question is always the same: does the diameter fit, does the length fit, and is the rate right for the rider?
Installation
The job needs no special tools beyond a fork spring compressor and a measuring rod for the oil level. Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical. Spring preload spacers may need adjusting to keep the installed length correct.
Road Approval
Road approval: no separate certificate. The spring changes the rate, not the construction of the fork, and is treated as a service part.
Fitting and Setup Service
Öhlins recommends that its suspension is fitted by an authorised service centre. We are one, and we do the work here: installation, servicing and a proper setup. Ask us and we will include it with the order.
