MT-Helmets Jarama SV Pure A3 Full-Face Helmet – Gloss Cream White

A plain cream-white shell, gloss, with no graphic at all — just the shape, a round eye port and the small vent trims. Pure A3 is the Jarama SV in the finish that suits its design best, and at around 1,475 g it is the lightest helmet MT Helmets builds.

Why the weight is the headline

1,475 g is a genuinely low figure for a thermoplastic full-face with a drop-down sun visor. MT's sport helmets sit around 1,500 g, their entry full-face around 1,600 g, their modular around 1,700 g.

A hundred grams is not much until it is the end of a long day. Your neck holds a helmet through every acceleration, every bump and every shoulder check, and the effect is cumulative rather than instantaneous — which is why weight is the specification riders notice last and appreciate longest. It is also why a light helmet gets worn on short trips where a heavy one gets left behind.

About the Pure A3 finish

A warm cream white, gloss, unbroken. The vent trims and the visor mechanism covers are the same tone; a small MT badge sits at the rear, and nothing else is on the shell at all.

A plain helmet is the hardest one to make well, because there is no graphic to hide behind — every seam, every vent surround and every transition sits exposed, and any unevenness in the paint reads immediately. When you look closely at a plain helmet, what you are looking at is the build quality. Cream rather than pure white is the choice that makes this work: a warm off-white reads as considered where a bright white reads as a rental helmet.

Retro shape, current standard

The Jarama is a design with a long history at MT, and the SV is its second edition. What the shape gives you is a round, classic silhouette; what it does not give you is any compromise in the standard.

It clears ECE 22.06 and carries DOT. Against the 22.05 it replaced, the current standard tests 18 impact points instead of five, at several speeds, adds an oblique impact against an abrasive anvil that measures rotational loading — the mechanism behind diffuse brain injury, which the old standard never measured — and applies a Brain Injury Criterion ceiling.

That is worth saying plainly because retro helmets have a reputation, largely earned, for being sold on looks. This one is a current-generation helmet in a classic shape, not an old design still in production.

The full-coverage sun visor

An integrated sun visor drops from inside the shell, and MT specifies it as full-coverage rather than the partial shade common at this price.

The difference shows at the bottom edge. A shade cut short leaves a bright band between its lower edge and your nose, and low sun comes through it exactly where the road is. Full coverage closes that gap — which is the whole point of a drop-down shade and the part most manufacturers economise on.

Noise

MT claims low noise levels for the Jarama SV, and the shape supports the claim: a round shell with a small eye port has less surface for turbulent air to catch than a sport helmet with a spoiler and large intakes.

We have no independent measurement, so treat that as MT's claim rather than a tested figure. And the usual caveat applies whatever the helmet: what decides noise for most riders is the screen on the bike, and earplugs above 100 km/h are worth wearing regardless.

The MT-V-32 screen

High-quality impact-resistant polycarbonate, sealing against the shell through a rubber edge with a flexible lip, on a mechanism that attaches and removes quickly and safely.

It is prepared for Pinlock DKS479 and the FogOff Fog012. Neither insert is supplied, and a smoked screen is a separate purchase.

MT-MDHC closure

The strap closes on MT-MDHC, MT's micrometric double-teeth buckle: a ratchet with two sets of teeth engaging rather than one.

The double engagement answers the standing objection to ratchets — that a strap fastened on a single tooth can work loose under vibration — while keeping the one-handed, gloved operation that makes a ratchet worth having.

Living with a cream helmet

A pale gloss shell shows road film, insects and fuel splashes more clearly than a dark one, and cream shows them slightly more than pure white because there is less brightness to hide them in.

Two rules. Never wipe a dry shell: grit dragged across gloss leaves swirls, and on a plain helmet with nothing to distract the eye they are the first thing anyone sees. And soak insects off under a damp cloth for a minute rather than scrubbing — insect remains are acidic and etch clearcoat if a hot afternoon reaches them first. In exchange, gloss polishes: a light swirl comes out with a mild compound, which matt cannot do at all.

Interior and intercom

The lining is removable and washable, and the shell is prepared for a UCS intercom.

On a retro-shaped helmet an intercom sits less obtrusively than on a sport shell, because there is no spoiler and no complex vent housing for the unit to fight with — a small practical advantage of the shape that nobody advertises.

What it does not have

• No independent safety rating. SHARP has not tested the Jarama SV; no ADAC or Snell result exists.
• No Pinlock insert and no smoked visor in the box.
• No spoiler. The shape is the point; if you ride a faired bike at high speed, a sport helmet is steadier in turbulent air.
• Sizes stop at XL (62 cm). If you measure larger, our Thunder 4 R SV runs to 3XL.
