A Sixty-Five Degree V4
Aprilia chose an unusually narrow vee angle so the engine could sit further forward without lengthening the wheelbase. The result is a motorcycle whose mass is concentrated where it helps and an engine note that nothing else on sale produces.
Seven World Superbike Titles
The RSV4 has won more manufacturers' championships than any other machine of its generation, which for a company of Aprilia's size against Japanese and German factories is a considerable achievement. The road bike is closer to the race one than most homologation specials manage.
Two Parts in One Casting
Aprilia builds the right-hand controls into the throttle housing. A single tired contact therefore condemns the complete assembly, which is inconvenient at a dealer and makes an aftermarket unit covering both jobs a sensible proposition rather than an indulgence.
Ride-by-Wire Precision
The RSV4 has had an electronic throttle since 2011, so the housing carries a position sensor rather than a cable drum. Play between the tube and the body becomes imprecision at the throttle bodies, which is a direct argument for a machined bore.
APRC on the Handlebar
Traction, wheelie and launch control are all adjustable on the move, and the controls that do it sit in this assembly. On a bike ridden at circuit pace those are used between corners rather than set once in the pit lane.
Four Anodised Finishes
Black, red, blue and titanium. Red and black both appear on Aprilia's own liveries, and all four are surface conversions rather than coatings, so a slide dulls the component instead of stripping it back to bright aluminium.
Milled, Not Cast
The standard part is a casting with a clipped cover. Cutting the replacement from one billet removes the joint entirely, which matters for the buttons that straddle it and for keeping water away from the contacts underneath.
