A Panigale That Fits
Ducati redrew the 959 with V4 styling, a wider seat and a reshaped tank, and renamed it the V2. It is the most usable superbike the company builds and it was the last twin to wear the Panigale name.
A Hundred and Fifty-Five Horsepower
From the 955 cc Superquadro, with a single-sided swingarm the 959 never had. Ducati spent the money on the parts a rider looks at and feels rather than on chasing another ten horsepower.
Cornering Everything
Lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, wheelie control and engine braking, all from a Bosch inertial platform. The V2 carries the same electronics as the V4 and asks considerably less of the rider.
Housing Without Switch
The switch block remains in place. This part is the throttle assembly on its own, which is the sensible purchase when the electrics are fine and the plastic is not.
The Tube's Bore
Machined rather than moulded, which keeps the grip's rotation smooth and concentric. The V2 is ride-by-wire, so that consistency ends up in the data the ECU acts on.
Black Anodised
Converted into the surface. On a motorcycle whose bodywork is doing a great deal, a quiet cockpit component is generally the correct decision.
Cut From Ergal 7075
A zinc-bearing aerospace alloy at roughly double the yield strength of ordinary machined aluminium. Harder to cut and considerably better at holding a clamping face.
The End of a Line
The V2 955 was the last Panigale twin. Its successor uses an entirely different engine, which has already made these bikes more interesting to people who care about such things.
