The JP CJP 134H is the fuel controller for a GSF1250 Bandit whose engine has been modified far enough that the standard closed-loop correction has run out of authority.

The Naked Version
Same big oil-cooled four without the bodywork. The Bandit sold on being enormously capable and completely unpretentious.
Five Hundred Grams
Heavier than the preset module because there is more inside it. On any motorcycle that is a mounting question rather than a weight question.
An Empty Map Is Safe
With every cell at zero the motorcycle runs its factory mixture. Nothing about fitting the unit changes anything until somebody writes a value into it.
A Surface, Not a Line
A fixed curve corrects along one dimension. A map corrects across two, which is what makes it possible to richen full load without touching the cruise cells.
The Standard Sensor Is Not Enough
A narrowband oxygen sensor only reports near stoichiometric. It cannot tell you what the mixture is doing at full load, which is exactly where you need to know.
What a Bad One Feels Like
Surging between operating points, a flat spot that moves rather than disappears, and an engine that behaves differently on two identical corners.
Session Discipline
One region at a time, one variable at a time, saved before and after. Mapping without discipline produces a file nobody can reason about, including its author.
Gear-Dependent Behaviour
The map has no gear axis. What feels different in first and sixth is load, and the map already accounts for that if the load axis is set up correctly.
Riding the Empty Map First
Worth insisting on. A motorcycle you have felt with every cell at zero gives you a reference; one you started changing immediately gives you nothing to compare against.
