The Naked Ninja 300
Same engine and frame, higher bars and no fairing. It is the more practical of the two and the one that suits a city better.
Thirty-Nine Horsepower
Enough to keep up with anything in traffic and modest enough to learn on. Kawasaki pitched the number for a licence category and it happened to suit.
The Reed Assembly
A moulded housing holding one reed per port, bolted to the cylinder head cover and fed by a hose from the airbox. It is the half that physically admits the air.
Nothing Consumed
No gasket is destroyed and no fastener stretched. Everything removed goes back exactly as it came off whenever it needs to.
Keep the Housing
It refits in twenty minutes with no new seals, and having it is what turns an emissions inspection or a suspicious buyer into a straightforward evening.
Sold Separately for a Reason
Some owners want the fault gone and nothing else; others want the whole system out. Kawasaki's arrangement lets both happen without compromise.
The Case Against Improvising
A bolt and washer, a rubber bung or a smear of epoxy will all hold for a while. None survives a season of heat cycling and the epoxy has to be chiselled off.
A Repair as Much as a Deletion
On any Kawasaki past its first decade this is a component with limited remaining life. Aluminium removes a job that was coming.
A Short Catalogue Life
The Z300 appeared for only a few years before the Z400 replaced it, which makes used examples less common than the Ninja's and parts availability slightly thinner than owners expect.
