The 2023 Revision
Ducati revised the aerodynamics, the electronics and the chassis, addressing most of what reviewers had criticised. It made an alarming motorcycle slightly less alarming.
Aluminium Instead
A cover machined from solid, sealing on an O-ring in a turned groove. There is nothing inside it to age and nothing to inspect for the life of the engine.
Not an Engine Job
Nothing is opened, drained or internally disturbed. It is an external component on an external face and the work reflects that.
A Repair With a Side Effect
On any Ducati past its first decade the reed housing has limited life left. Replacing it with aluminium removes a job that was coming.
An Evening Either Way
Whether fitted alone or alongside the electrical half, the access is identical. Doing both at once is simply better value for the effort.
On a Motorcycle Where the Engine Shows
Ducati styles around the engine more than most manufacturers, and a milled cover reads as considered where a plastic box and a hose read as necessary.
The Hose Port at the Airbox
Removing the housing leaves the intake end of the hose open, and closing it is not optional. Unfiltered air entering an engine is a considerably worse outcome than the emissions system ever was, and it is the single most common thing left undone in an otherwise careful job.
Working Around the Belts
On the older twins the cambelt covers sit close to where the hand needs to go, and it is worth knowing which fasteners are which before starting. Nothing about the secondary air housing requires the belt covers to come off, and taking them off unnecessarily invites a job nobody wanted.
