Seventeen Litres
Enough for a real day, which the Z800 needed because it was never particularly economical when ridden the way it invites.
A Solid Engine
The 806 cc four has proved durable and high-mileage examples are unremarkable. It is one of the safer used buys in the class.
One Session
Both pieces live within a hand's width of each other and come into reach at the same moment. Buying them separately means paying for that reach a second time.
Type Approval
The system belongs to the approval where it is mandated, and removing it moves the machine into competition use in those markets.
What Gets Recorded
The date, the parts removed and where they are stored. Whoever diagnoses this motorcycle in five years will otherwise assume the system is present.
Everything Refits
Housing, hose, clips and the original connector, with nothing consumed and no new seals needed. That is what makes this a modification rather than an alteration.
Access Is the Expensive Part
Neither part is dear and neither takes long to fit. The cost is entirely in the dismantling, which is why paying it twice makes so little sense.
A Job for Somebody Patient
Nothing here is difficult and everything is fiddly. Rushing the hose routing or the tank refit is how a clean conversion produces a fuel smell.
Discontinued but Everywhere
Kawasaki replaced the Z800 in 2017 and yet a great many remain in daily use, because the engine is durable and the price is now very low. Parts demand for the model has stayed considerably higher than production numbers would predict.
The Bike Between Two Eras
Kawasaki's 806 cc four sat between the old Z750 and the Z900 that replaced it, and it has aged into an affordable naked bike that owners are willing to work on. Nothing about it is precious.
