The Last of the 1050
Triumph's final version before the 1200 arrived, with Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes and a full electronics package as standard.
A Hundred and Fifty Horsepower
From the enlarged 1050, which was the most Triumph extracted from that engine and enough to keep the Speed Triple competitive to the end.
Air Injection, Briefly
Triumph feeds fresh air into the exhaust ports on a shut throttle so unburnt fuel finishes burning after the cylinder. The measurement improves and the engine notices nothing.
Emissions Testing
Where periodic inspection covers this equipment, an absent valve is a straightforward failure. Refitting it beforehand is an evening rather than a workshop visit.
Sold Before the Silencer
Riders often fit this first, because the crackle they were about to blame on a new exhaust turns out to have been there all along.
The Second Half of the Deletion
The cover for the cylinder head is a separate part and a separate decision. A great many owners fit the electrical half, live with it for a season and then finish the job.
Why Not Leave It Alone
Plenty of people do, and on a standard motorcycle with the original exhaust there is very little reason to change anything. The case for this part is strongest on a bike that has already been modified.
A Sensible Test Ride
Ten minutes with a few closed-throttle sections is enough to confirm both that the noise has gone and that nothing has been trapped or left loose under the tank. It is worth doing before the bike is put away.
Where the Fault Sits
In the engine controller, against the secondary air circuit. It is a stored code rather than a limp mode, and the motorcycle runs normally throughout.
