The Solenoid Circuit
An electrically opened valve feeding the exhaust ports on the overrun, watched by the controller at every start. Only the watching causes a problem.
What an Open Circuit Means
Infinite resistance where a coil should be. The controller cannot distinguish deletion from failure, so it reports a fault.
Answering With the Right Value
This unit supplies the load the controller expects. Nothing is bridged and nothing is stored for a later scan to find.
Semi-Active WP Apex
The EVO's distinguishing feature: damping adjusted continuously from an inertial platform, with an auto levelling function. On a bike this powerful it earns its place.
A Short Run
KTM offered the EVO alongside the standard R for a few seasons before the 1390 replaced both. It is the most complete version of that generation.
Suspension Changed on the Move
Settings are selected from the bar while riding. It is the sort of feature that sounds like a gimmick until a road surface changes underneath.
Overrun Noise
Fuel burning in the header rather than a resonance in the silencer. Removing the air supply removes the cause entirely.
KTM's Own Plug
One connector, pre-wired, nothing cut. The loom is left exactly as it came from the factory.
The Cover Finishes It
The reed housing stays on the cylinder head until the mechanical half is replaced as well.
Type Approval
Emissions hardware forms part of the approval and removing it ends road legality across Europe.
Electronics as the Difference
Mechanically the EVO is a standard Super Duke R with different suspension internals. KTM sold it as a separate model because the damping changes what the bike does on a broken road more than any frame revision of that generation did.
