A Cafe Racer on the 900 Platform
Clip-ons, a seat cowl and bar-end mirrors on the Street Twin chassis. Triumph built the look properly and kept the price sensible.
Sixty-Five Horsepower
From the 900 twin, unchanged. The Street Cup was about the riding position and the styling rather than about performance, and it was honest about that.
Nothing Cut
Triumph's own bracket holes and connectors throughout. The conversion reverses in an evening with no replacement parts required.
Track Bikes Do Not Need It
On a motorcycle that no longer sees a public road, the entire assembly is mass and obstruction with no remaining purpose.
An Older Bike, an Older Bed
On anything more than a decade old the charcoal has almost certainly stopped absorbing, which makes the whole assembly dead weight in the most literal sense.
Photograph the Hoses First
The routing is hard to see once anything is disturbed and impossible to reconstruct from memory a year later. Two minutes with a camera makes the eventual refit straightforward.
A Small Job With a Long Explanation
The work takes an evening and the reasoning behind it takes rather longer to set out, which is a fair description of most emissions-related modifications.
Keep Everything Together
Vessel, bracket, hoses, clips and valve in one labelled box. The refit is then an hour rather than a puzzle, and an emissions inspection stops being a problem.
Vapour Is Not Waste
The system exists to burn what would otherwise escape, which is a genuinely sensible idea. The objection is to the hardware rather than to the principle.
A Short Production Run
Triumph offered the Street Cup for a few seasons before reorganising the modern classic range, and it has become one of the rarer bikes in the family. Parts specific to it are correspondingly harder to find, which is a reason to keep whatever comes off in a box.
