The JP ES 002 clears the charcoal canister out of the Monster 1200 R and provides the tank vent that has to replace it, which is the part nobody should improvise.

A Hundred and Sixty Horsepower
The most powerful Monster Ducati has built, with a higher rev ceiling and revised cams over the standard 1200. It was a genuine engine change.
Where It Hides
Behind the engine or under the tail depending on the model, with three lines and a bracket. On a Ducati that area is never generous.
Not a Performance Change
Removing evaporative control does not free power, sharpen the throttle or improve consumption. The gains are space, access and one fewer thing to fail.
Where the Fault Code Lives
Against the purge solenoid circuit, in the engine controller. The electronics have no way of knowing whether carbon is present and no interest in finding out.
The Weight Is Not the Point
A kilogram and a half changes nothing about how the motorcycle rides. The space and the removal of a component that fails without warning are the reasons.
The Hoses Are the Weak Point
They harden, chafe against brackets and split at the ends where the clips grip them. On a machine ridden hard that is a fuel smell and a code.
Not Every Market Has One
Ducati fits evaporative control where regulations demand it, so an imported machine may have none of this plumbing. Five minutes under the tank settles it.
Why Owners Remove It
It is a plastic drum with several hoses and a purge valve, tucked into whatever space Ducati could find, and on most models that space is exactly where an exhaust, a shock reservoir or a set of luggage brackets wants to go. Removing it frees a genuinely useful volume and takes a surprising amount of hose out of the motorcycle.
Doing It With the Tank Off
The tank has to come off anyway to reach the upper hoses, and with it out of the way the whole system is visible at once. Photographing the routing before anything is disconnected takes a minute and saves an argument with yourself later about which line went where.
