DescriptionThe whole story▼
Mountain enduro days often end with a long descent: an hour of steep tracks and switchbacks from the ridge back down to the valley. On a KTM 500 EXC-F Six Days, the biggest of KTM's Six Days four-strokes, that descent keeps the front brake busy almost without a break. For the 500 EXC-F Six Days of 2014 to 2018, Accossato offers the B8283, a three-finger brake lever from Ergal 7075 whose blade can fold if a switchback catches you out.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM 500 EXC-F Six Days, 2014 to 2018
- Replaces the stock lever on the front brake master cylinder
- Joint lets the blade fold forward instead of snapping
- Short blade laid out for three fingers
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black, blue or orange blade
- One lever in the delivery
- No German ABE documented; not approved on public roads
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato has enduro in its history: in 1985 the company won an enduro world title. Its off-road levers are still CNC-machined in Italy, and the B8283 starts as solid Ergal 7075, an alloy the company uses for strength, low weight and reliability. A dark base holds the pivot; the blade, in the colour you choose, sits on a joint and can fold towards the front. It is the short blade of the pair, meant for three fingers.
The Long Way Down
A long descent tires you in a way a short one does not. The hands work the whole time, the forearms ache, and concentration slips just as the track steepens. Riders who handle it well on a 500 EXC-F Six Days let the engine braking of the big single do part of the job in a low gear, share the braking between front and rear, and relax their grip on the straighter parts to let the hands recover. A short blade that three fingers can operate leaves the rest of the hand on the grip, holding the bike steady.
Late in a descent, a small error is enough: a loose stone in a switchback, a front wheel that slides, and the bike lies on its right side. Mountain tracks are rocky, and a solid lever breaks easily there. Because its blade is hinged, the B8283 can give way to the rock instead of meeting it head-on, and that gives it a chance. Without a front brake, the rest of the way down is slow and risky, so a lever that comes through intact is worth a great deal on the KTM 500 EXC-F Six Days.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list, the B8283 covers the KTM 500 EXC-F Six Days from 2014 to 2018 and replaces the brake lever KTM fitted. Up to and including the 2016 model year, KTM called this bike the 500 EXC Six Days. The C7283 clutch lever covers the same span, 2014 to 2018. Black, blue and orange are made for both levers, and the clutch lever comes in red too.
Road Approval
The 500 EXC-F Six Days is usually registered for road use, but the B8283 has no documented German ABE. It is intended for off-road riding and competition; on public roads it is not approved.
