DescriptionThe whole story▼
Added with the 2014 update, the XT1200ZE is the Super Ténéré with electronically adjustable suspension, the version for riders who cover long distances and switch between riding solo, with luggage and with a passenger. On motorway stretches many of them let the cruise control hold the speed, which leaves the right hand resting until the traffic ahead slows. The Accossato EDF016 fits the original master cylinder of the XT1200ZE Super Ténéré, listed for 2014 to 2020, and is machined from aluminium with an adjustable distance to the grip.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Yamaha XT1200ZE Super Ténéré, 2014 to 2020
- Mounts on the original front master cylinder
- Reach adjuster close to the pivot
- Standard blade of about 138 mm, long blade for whole-hand stops
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange and silver
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised in two tones
- Fixed lever without a folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's experience with brake discs comes from Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. The EDF016 is a lever rather than a disc: machined from aluminium on CNC equipment instead of being cast, then anodised, with the hub in black and the blade in one of seven colours. As a fixed lever it has no hinge between hub and tip, so the feel at the fingers stays direct and consistent, whether the ZE is carrying one person or two.
Cruise Control and the Right Hand
With cruise control engaged, the right hand has little to do, and it is tempting to let it drift into a relaxed, open position away from the lever. The system disengages as soon as you brake, so the change from cruising to slowing has to be quick and clean, and a lever set too far away costs time exactly when the traffic ahead suddenly bunches up. Set the EDF016 so your fingers can reach the blade without the hand moving on the grip; many riders rest two fingers on it at speed. After fitting any new brake lever, check on the stand that the brake light comes on from the first movement of the lever, then test on a quiet road that the cruise control on your XT1200ZE disengages as soon as the lever moves. If either check fails, have the set-up looked at by a workshop before riding on.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list starts its XT 1200 ZE entry earlier, but the ZE only arrived with the 2014 update, so this product covers 2014 to 2020. The EDF016 mounts on the original front master cylinder in place of the stock lever. For the clutch of the ZE, Accossato names the ESC777 for 2014 to 2020, plus the ESY688 for the Raid Edition of 2018 and 2019. The XT1200Z without electronic suspension has its own product pages in our shop.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for this lever, so we sell it for track days and racing.
