DescriptionThe whole story▼
From its launch in 2013, the CB500X has been the member of Honda's A2 twin family most likely to be loaded up for a trip: panniers on the sides, a bag on the seat, sometimes a passenger as well. A laden bike stops differently from an empty one, and the right hand has to adapt. Accossato's EDF025 replaces the stock brake lever on the original master cylinder of the 2013 to 2021 CB500X, with a reach adjuster near the pivot and a choice of blade lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Honda CB500X, 2013 to 2021
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Reach adjustable near the pivot
- Long blade for more leverage in blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard blade approx. 138 mm, short blade also available
- Black hub, anodised aluminium, CNC-machined
- One-piece fixed design
Construction and Material Quality
Aluminium, CNC machining and anodising are the ingredients of the EDF025. The machined shape gives the blade clean, consistent edges; the anodising gives it colour and a hard skin, black on the hub and your choice of seven colours on the blade. The hub contains the pivot and the adjuster, and the blade is fixed to it without any folding joint, so there is nothing that could rattle loose on a long, loaded trip over rough roads.
Packed for a Holiday
Luggage and a passenger add weight, and weight has to be stopped. A fully laden CB500X takes longer to slow down and pitches more when the front brake bites, especially with heavy panniers hanging out behind the rear axle. The practical answers are simple. Leave more distance to the vehicle in front, begin braking earlier and more gently, and build the pressure progressively instead of relying on a late, hard squeeze. Your hand does most of that work, sometimes for most of a day on holiday, so it should not be stretching for the lever each time. Before the trip, set the EDF025 with the gloves you will tour in, and check the setting again after the first long day, when tired fingers show whether the reach is right. The long blade gives extra leverage for four-finger braking and less effort per stop. With the lever where your hand wants it, a loaded CB500X feels predictable, which is what you need on unfamiliar roads far from home.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF025 for the CB500X from 2013 to 2021, and it fits the original master cylinder. The clutch lever for the same bikes is the ESH250; for the CB500X of 2022 and 2023, Accossato gives a different brake lever, the EDF018.
Road Approval
For this lever there is no documented German ABE. It is therefore sold for use on race circuits.
