A 250 cc motocross four-stroke is asked for something no road engine ever is: near full throttle, near the rev ceiling, for the length of a moto. Measured against its displacement it moves more air per minute than anything else on this fitment list. The Sprint Filter T12 is the finest medium in the range — a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns at a rated 560 l/m²/sec. Those two figures belong together, and on a CRF250R you are handing over more of the second than on any other machine this element fits.
Key Features
- 7 microns from a dry polyester special non-woven — the finest medium Sprint Filter makes
- Rated flow 560 l/m²/sec, drawn up for extreme conditions, off-road use and desert dust
- Oil never touches it, so nothing can be drawn downstream into the intake tract
- Goes into the standard airbox directly, without modification and without a remap
- Compressed air from the clean side is the normal service; washed and raced again
- Warranty: two years from the purchase date
What 7 microns costs, and when to pay it
Sprint Filter builds this shape in several media, and they line up as a trade rather than a ranking. The P08 filters at 80 microns and flows 5,050 l/m²/sec. The P14 holds down to 14 microns at 1,800. The T12 holds to 7 microns at 560. Every step finer catches more and passes less. On a watered, freshly prepared track with little dust in the air, a fine weave is buying retention you do not particularly need with flow that you might. On a dry August track blown out by thirty riders before your gate drop, the same arithmetic turns completely around. Choose by the surface you actually race on — if that is consistently a prepared one, the P08 or the F1-85 is the more sensible end of the trade.
The part that stands between the track and the bore
On a motocross machine the air filter is not one routine consumable among others. It sits on the shortest path between the surface the front wheel ahead of you is throwing into the air and the inside of the cylinder. A 250 finds its lap time at revs, so the minutes it spends at full load are minutes of air being drawn through the element: the exposure rises with how hard the bike is ridden. The SM248T12 is aimed at that situation — hold the fine mineral fraction, accept the flow penalty knowingly, and check the element after every meeting instead of at a service interval.
Care and cleaning
Between motos the compressor does it: clean side, blowing outwards, and the SM248T12 is ready for the next gate. When a weekend has earned more, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear — then give it open air and time, because heat and flame both destroy the medium. It goes back in dry, and it never sees oil. Sprint Filter designs the element to last the life of the motorcycle, and the maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda CRF250R from 2022 to 2026. The same element covers four machines across the CRF competition range; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
