Almost everything that makes a current MT-10 manageable — the electronic throttle, the traction control, the power modes — is calculated from sensors in the airflow behind this element. That is the part of the machine nobody thinks about when shopping for a filter that copes with dust, and it quietly rules out a whole category of answer. The Sprint Filter SM238P14 is a dry special non-woven filtering at 14 microns with a rated 1,800 l/m²/sec, made for dust, daily use and long distances. Nothing about it is oiled, and nothing about it ever is.
Key Features
- Dry special non-woven filtering down to 14 microns, specified for dusty conditions
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, traded deliberately against the finer retention
- No oil in the medium and no oiling step in the service, so nothing travels downstream
- Replaces the original element inside the standard airbox, without cutting or remapping
- Serviced with an air line and refitted, instead of ordered and thrown away
- Two years of warranty from the purchase date
Why nothing in this intake should be oiled
An oiled cotton filter works by making its fibres sticky, and the dose is left to whoever last serviced it. Too little and the medium is simply coarse; too much and the surplus goes where the air goes. On a machine whose throttle plates are moved by a motor acting on sensor readings, that is a poor place for a variable nobody measures. There is a filtration argument too, and Sprint Filter's own comparison makes it: against 100-micron particles their dry P08 weave holds back 93.13 per cent, four-layer oiled cotton 76.42 per cent. Dry media do not need the oil to do the work.
What 14 microns cost
Finer means more retention and less flow — one trade, not a ladder of better and worse. The range reads that way end to end: 85 microns and a rated 15,000 l/m²/sec for the racing medium, 80 and 5,050 for the P08, 37 and 4,500 for the water-repellent P037, this P14 at 14 and 1,800, then 7 and 560 for the T12. A litre-class four asks for genuine airflow near the top of its range, so this medium is a decision rather than a default: it belongs on an MT-10 that spends its summers on dry back roads, gravel car parks and construction-season motorways. On clean tarmac the P08 is the better balance. Neither one adds power to a standard engine.
Care and cleaning
Feed compressed air in from the clean side so the dust leaves through the face that collected it. Heavy loading calls for lukewarm water and a mild detergent, then a rinse until the run-off is clear. It goes back dry, air-dried in a draught rather than on a radiator or near a flame, and no part of the procedure adds oil. Sprint Filter design the SM238P14 to last as long as the motorcycle, so this short routine is the whole of its maintenance; the manufacturer sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha MT-10 and MT-10 SP of 2022 to 2026 and fitted in the series airbox in place of the original element. The part number is specific to this model rather than shared across a platform; the Fitment tab lists it.
