What the Coating Is Worth in Three Years

Judge this option on the second winter rather than on the first ride. A low-mounted stainless box collects everything the front wheel lifts: water, salt, grit and brake dust, baked on by heat cycles at every stop.

Bare AISI 304 survives that but does not look untouched afterwards — heat tint and staining set in around the hottest section and no amount of polishing fully lifts them. A baked ceramic layer gives the surface something to lose before the steel does, and it stays one colour rather than going through the blue-brown sequence. On a motorcycle you intend to keep, that is the argument; the appearance on day one is the same either way.

Not a Performance Option

It is worth saying plainly. The box, the catalyst, the silencer, the weight and the approval are identical to GTR0503TOM. A hundred and sixty euros buys a finish and nothing else.

Spark treats it as exactly that: the black ceramic treatment is listed as optional on the pre-silencer box across this generation, not as a separate specification. If you want the money in the exhaust rather than on it, the untreated version is the same product.

Still the Quiet One

Spark measured this family at 97 dB at 5,850 rpm — the identical figure it recorded for the standard Triumph exhaust. The Grid-O is the Moto2 world champion silencer and it is not a quiet component by nature; the catalysed pre-silencer box in front of it is what brings the reading back to standard.

That architecture also explains the performance claim. Spark's stated goal was more power with no ECU modification, achieved with a catalyst that has racing cell count and a rich noble-metal impregnation instead of a restrictor.

Triumph Street Triple 765 R, RS and S, 2020 through 2022. Without the ceramic treatment it is GTR0503TOM; with the Moto GP silencer GTR0504DOM. The high lateral versions are GTR0505TOM, GTR0505BOM and GTR0506TOM. Mounts on the standard collector or Spark's GTR8502.
