One Component, Two Functions
The right-hand switches live inside the throttle housing. This unit replaces both, machined from a single billet and plugged into Ducati's own connector.
Adjustable Ride Height
The R allows the rear ride height and the swingarm pivot to be changed. These are racing adjustments on a road motorcycle and they exist because the bike was built to be homologated.
Titanium Where It Counts
Connecting rods, valves and a great many fasteners. The R's weight saving came from materials rather than from deleting equipment, which is the expensive way to do it.
Sealed Contacts
Enclosed inside the machined body. An R sees circuits, which means hot washing after every session and a paddock overnight, both harder on switchgear than road use.
Precision at Small Openings
The throttle bore is cut rather than formed. On an engine calibrated as carefully as the R's, a tube with play feeds the ECU a slightly wrong angle every time it moves.
Black Anodising
Converted into the metal. Against carbon panels and exposed titanium fastenings it recedes properly rather than adding another material to the mix.
Cut From Solid
Ergal 7075 at roughly double the yield strength of ordinary machined aluminium. On a motorcycle that will see gravel at some point, the material is chosen accordingly.
Twelve Thousand Revs
The R's ceiling was higher than most inline fours of its generation. It is what the 112 millimetre bore was for and it is why the engine needed titanium to survive it.
Original Connector
Pre-wired to Ducati's plug, so nothing is cut and the change reverses as easily as it was made. Nothing appears on the dashboard afterwards.
