DescriptionThe whole story▼

The rear brake of an R nineT spends most of its working life below walking pace: turning the bike around in a narrow street, holding it steady while a pillion climbs aboard, easing down a sloping driveway with both feet ready. Accossato covers that job with the AGPA29 pad in the Organic (OR) compound, listed for the R nineT from 2014 to 2023 and for the Urban G/S version from 2017. The company's claim for this material is about stamina rather than force: it keeps performing over a long period and goes easy on the disc it works against.

Key Features

  • Rear brake pads for the BMW R nineT, 2014 to 2023
  • Also listed for the Urban G/S version from 2017 onwards
  • AGPA29OR: the AGPA29 plate in the Organic (OR) compound
  • Accossato promises a long service life and restrained wear on the disc
  • Chosen for everyday riding, manoeuvring and town work
  • Two pads in the box, which is the set for the single rear caliper
  • The same plate is also catalogued as ST, STMX and EV1 articles
  • No German ABE on record; sold for track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato keeps one rear plate and varies what is bonded to it, and the organic layer is the mild-mannered member of that family. Longevity is the first thing the manufacturer mentions, and care for the disc is the second; both matter more at the back of a motorcycle than most riders assume, because a rear disc is smaller, sits lower and collects everything the wheel throws at it. A material that wears without cutting into steel keeps that disc usable for a long time. The rear wheel of the R nineT is stopped by a single caliper, and the two pads in the box fill it exactly.

Walking Pace and Full Lock

Slow riding is where the back brake shows its manners. A gentle drag on the pedal with the clutch slipping steadies the bike through a full-lock turn, and the difference between a mix that bites suddenly and one that comes in gradually is the difference between a tidy U-turn and a foot down. The same applies in a queue, on a gravel car park and when walking the bike backwards into a parking space on a camber. Riders who carry a passenger regularly use the pedal more than they think, and that steady use is what wears a rear pad out. After fitting, press the pedal several times until it firms up, then check that the wheel turns freely by hand before you set off, and look through the caliper at the remaining material whenever you clean the wheel.

Fitment and Compatibility

This plate is listed for the rear wheel of the R nineT across the years 2014 to 2023, which takes in the Urban G/S version offered from 2017. At the front the picture is different: the original roadster wants the AGPA177 and the Urban G/S the AGPA96, both from Accossato's own range. The same manufacturer catalogues the DK006 and DK007 discs for the front wheel of this family. Only one caliper works at the back, so a single box completes the job, and the two pads should always go in as a pair.

Road Approval

Our file for the AGPA29OR holds no German ABE and no test certificate, so there is nothing here to document the pad for public roads. It is supplied for use on closed circuits and in competition.

Scope of Delivery

Two Accossato AGPA29 pads in the Organic (OR) compound, boxed as the complete set for the rear caliper.
