DescriptionThe whole story▼
Pulling away on a slope is one of the first real tests of clutch control, and on a Honda CRF150F it tends to come early, on the first trail that climbs out of a clearing. Too little throttle and the engine stalls; too much clutch too quickly and the rear tyre spins. For the CRF150F of 2003 to 2017, Accossato makes the C7103, a folding clutch lever milled from Ergal 7075 with a long blade that has room for four fingers. If the bike drops onto its left side, a joint allows that blade to give way forwards.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Honda CRF150F, 2003 to 2017
- Replaces the stock lever at the original cable clutch perch
- Long blade with space for four fingers
- Anti-break joint: the blade folds forward instead of breaking off
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy
- Made in Italy
- Blade in black or red, dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The C7103 is machined, not cast. Accossato starts with a solid block of Ergal 7075 and cuts the lever out of it on CNC machines in Italy; the alloy is one of the strongest aluminium grades in general use, and the company chose it with strength, low weight and reliability in mind. Two pieces make up the lever. The dark base carries the pivot at the clutch perch, and the blade, black or red, is attached to it by a joint that lets it fold. It is Accossato's long clutch blade, with room for four fingers to share the pull.
Hill Starts on Loose Ground
A hill start on dirt follows a sequence that has to be practised until it no longer needs thought. Hold the CRF150F on the rear brake with your right foot, select first, pull the clutch lever to the bar. Add a little throttle, then let the clutch out slowly until you feel the bike pulling against the brake. Only then release the pedal, keeping the throttle steady and the clutch near the friction point a moment longer than seems necessary. On loose gravel, a rider who drops the clutch spins the tyre and slides sideways; one who lets it out without enough throttle stalls the engine.
A stall on a slope rarely ends gracefully. The bike stops, starts rolling back, and the left boot, the only one on the ground, slips on loose stones. Down goes the bike on that side, and the clutch lever lands on the stones with the weight of the machine behind it. The C7103's joint gives the blade a way to fold forward instead of snapping, so there is a good chance you can stand the bike up, find neutral and try again straight away. No lever survives every drop, but practising hill starts is far less discouraging when a failed attempt does not also cost a part. After any fall it is worth checking the free play at the lever, since the cable adjustment can shift.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the CRF150F, the C7103 takes the place of the standard lever at the original clutch perch; Accossato lists it for every model year from 2003 to 2017. The same span is covered on the right by the folding B8206 brake lever, which is made in black, blue, gold or red. With this clutch lever offered in black and red, those two are the colours for a pair that matches.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE documented for the C7103. The CRF150F is built for trails and off-road riding, and the lever is supplied for that use only.
